Finding my Defender 90

Now I know what I want just need to find one. I decided to use Autotrader because I had used it to buy and sell cars before (but not for a while) and also eBay as I use it everyday as part of my job. I logged into my Autotrader account and set up a search for Defender 90 station wagons. Initially I didn't set up a price range as I wanted to see everything that was available. I set up a similar search in my eBay account.

After looking through the results and checking out the specs on the different model years I decided that I would prefer one of the later models. Now this is a really complex issue and I am not going to go into all the details, all I will say is you are in the market for a Defender you will need to make up your own mind. There are "issues" with all defenders and many passionate owners with their opinions. I wish I could have picked a combination of specs and features for my perfect Defender but that Defender does not exist (or would be well out of my price range) in the end I opted for a model/year that would give me the features that were important to me. I think all Defender owners would like to own at least two Defenders/Range/Land Rovers.

Which Defender?

After realising that I needed a Defender I then had to work out which one. I knew very little about them, my Uncle Bill (not a real uncle) had one, must have been a series and I had been in that one a couple of times when I was 10 or so. First choice was pretty easy, 90,110 or 130? 130 too big, leaving 110 and 90. 110 loads of space but unlikely that I would need to ship more than 3 people or be able to fill that space. Leaves the 90, compact, easier to park, carries 4 if needed and a little more agile if I do venture off road. Decision made, 90.

The next choice is 90 body type. Generally there are 3 to pick from, hard top, pick up and station wagon. Again a pretty easy decision for me. Pick up was ruled out straight away as I knew that I would need to be able to seat more than one passenger. That left hard top and station wagon, the hard top has no rear windows and is more like a small van, sometimes there is seating available but only bench type seats which are side facing. The only true 4 seater is the station wagon so, once again, decision made. Defender 90 station wagon.
